The Killian family
has been around and using horses for over 100 years.
Ever since the family was called to move from Utah to
Arizona by President Brigham Young, this family has been
operating ranches and farms for all these many years.
Good Horses have played an important role in the
management and operations of the ranches this family has
owned and operated in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and
Kentucky.

Example of the Outstanding horses we raise for
the ranch
The
first real good horses (click names to see pedigree
database, opens in new window) the family acquired came from
uncle Rex C. Ellsworth (Link

Link 3) the famous
Thoroughbred breeder. He ran the Hackberry ranch in Arizona
and his quarter horses were mostly by
Flying Bob
Jr.,
Red
Jewel and the thoroughbred stallion
Silver Cord. These bloodlines were in the
geldings that Uncle Rex sent the Killian's to use for
the ranches. They were outstanding horses and were used
for many years.
In
the late 1960’s uncle Rex sent some mares from Arizona
to the Colorado ranch with these bloodlines, they were
mostly ranch mares and not registered. We raised some
really nice horses by a stud known as
Vandy Baldy
owned by Vint Milner of Kiowa Colorado. They were
outstanding horses, but we could not register them being
out of these good old ranch mares. In the early 1970’s
we acquired from Tenny Lameroux of Gilbert Arizona some
Driftwood bred horses. In particular we
acquired the mare
Speedy’s Lass by
Speedy II out of
Sorrel Hancock. Speedy II is one of the very best
Driftwood sons, who have not been given much
attention, but you will find his blood lines in the
Babbitt ranch horses.
Speedy’s Lass was
crossed on a number of different stallions and we kept
two daughters one by
CallmeBarjo and the
other Petisa Jo, both were sons of
Barjo a direct son of
Three Bars
owned by the Allred Brothers of Mesa Arizona. These two
mares constitute the baseline breeding program for our
broodmare band today.
Our
horses blood contains the breeding of
Driftwood,
Speedy II,
Joe
Hancock,
Old
Sorrel,
Three Bars,
Saint
Mark,
Go Man Go,
Two Eyed Jack,
Skipper
W,
Freckles Playboy,
Peppy San Badger,
Mr. San Peppy,
Doc Olena,
Doc
Bar,
Doc Tari,
Easy Jet,
Blondys
Dude, and many
other great foundation quarter Horses.
We
believe that the combination of
Skipper
W,
Driftwood,
Doc Olena,
Peppy San Badger and
Freckles Playboy will create an outstanding cow
horse that will stand the test of time.
We
have bred our horses for cow sense and stamina. We want
good dispositions, horses our children can ride with no
fear and horses that will carry a cowboy all day long
and do what you have to do and still have enough energy
to get home. These horses naturally cut, they rope well
and they will move cattle.
If
you are looking for a horse with brains, stamina and
style, this is the place. You will not find a better
set of horses anywhere in the Southwest. These are not
pampered stalled up show horses. By looking at the
horses you can see that any of them would do well in the
show ring. Just look over our broodmares and Stallions
and you will see that we are headed in your direction.
We welcome you to visit us anytime and we will be happy
to sell you a good using horse that will do well on the
ranch, trail, and arena or in the back yard. You will
not find a better set of horses any where!
